NFL confirms multi-year deal for games in Madrid

The NFL announced a "multi-year" agreement Monday to continue playing regular-season games in Madrid, starting in 2026.

The league staged its first game in Spain during the 2025 season when the Miami Dolphins defeated the Washington Commanders 16-13 in overtime on Nov. 16.

The game drew 78,610 fans to Real Madrid's Bernabeu Stadium, which will once again serve as the venue under Monday's deal.

"It is an honor and a privilege for Real Madrid to host the NFL once again at the Bernabeu stadium," said Real Madrid director of institutional relations Emilio Butragueno. "We experienced a historic first NFL Madrid game a few months ago, and this new agreement will allow the alliance between our club, the Community of Madrid, the City Council and the NFL to continue, strengthening the image of our capital and the Spanish brand around the world. The transformation of the Bernabeu stadium is a major boost for sport to continue to be a unifying force for millions of fans across all continents."

The Chicago Bears, Kansas City Chiefs and Dolphins have marketing rights in Spain, where the NFL counts 11 million fans.

The NFL played six other international games in 2025: three in London, one in Berlin, one in Dublin and one in Sao Paolo, Brazil.

In addition to returning to Madrid in 2026, the NFL will play its first-ever game in Australia in Melbourne with the Los Angeles Rams as one of the participants. There will also be three games in London and one each in Munich, Germany, and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with additional games to be announced.

From A to Z, here's everything you need to know about the history of the Super Bowl

Super Bowl LXis almost upon us, and the coming clash between theNew England Patriotsand the Seattle Seahawks is fascinating. Few would have expected either team to make it this far; both were given odds of greater than 50-1 at the start of the season and neither quarterback, Sam Darnold nor Drake Maye, had won so much as a playoff game before this campaign.

Last season, the Patriots lost 13 games. No team has ever recovered so quickly to make the Super Bowl, and if they win again on Sunday, they'll become the first team to win it seven times.

History will also be made in the halftime show, as Bad Bunny becomes the first Latin male performer.

Now in its 60th year, this is one of the greatest events in all of sports. So, to get you in the mood for the week of build-up ahead, here's a A-Z guide to the history and traditions of the Super Bowl.

A is for Anthem

There is no sporting event anywhere in the world that embraces pageantry quite like the Super Bowl, and nowhere else is "The Star-Spangled Banner" guaranteed an audience of over 100 million Americans. The performance is always intensely scrutinized, just in case somebody drops a note or flubs a line of the national anthem. Billy Joel has sung it twice; 1930s and '40s actor Pat O'Brien chose to speak the words at Super Bowl IV in 1970; and Whitney Houston's 1991 rendition during the Gulf War is considered the best, even though she later revealed that it was lip-synced.Angelic.

B is for Bills

Nobody knows heartbreak like the Buffalo Bills, who played in four consecutive Super Bowls and lost them all. The Bills have never won the Super Bowl, and they've never returned to football's biggest stage since their last, fateful appearance in 1994.Brutal.

C is for Commercials

There's something for everybody on Super Bowl Sunday, and the commercial breaks have become a key element of the entertainment package. Some of the ads are so eagerly anticipated that there are even trailers to promote them.

Leading brands will plan their annual marketing campaigns around the game and will pay handsomely to display their wares in the world's biggest shop window. NBC says they sold all their Super Bowl LX ad space before the season had kicked off. With a 30-second slot selling for an average of $8 million, that's $266,667 per second.Costly.

D is for Defense

They say, "Offense wins games, defense wins championships," and that was never truer than Super Bowl XII when the Dallas Cowboys beat Denver 27-10. The Cowboys' defensive linemen Harvey Martin and Randy White made three sacks between them, leading a defense that forced eight turnovers and limited Denver to 156 total yards. They were so good that it's the only time two MVPs have been named in one game.Doomsday.

E is for Elvis

Elvis Presto performs during the halftime extravaganza of the San Francisco 49ers 20-16 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl XXIII on January 22, 1989 at Joe Robbie Stadium in Miami, Florida. - Rob Brown/Getty Images

Yes, Elvis really did play the Super Bowl halftime show; no, not that one. In 1989, the Joe Robbie Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, became the stage for a giant magic trick at halftime, with "Elvis Presto" holding court. The show was broadcast in 3D, viewers who had purchased promotional packs of soda had the glasses to watch it. Remarkably the performer slated to play Elvis quit the gig to shoot a Lee jeans commercial, so Alex Cole stepped in with just three days' notice for the performance of a lifetime. Cole went out on top, he later said it was the last time he ever performed on a stage.Entrancing.

F is for Forty Niners

One of the Super Bowl's most successful teams, the Niners have won it five times, twice in record-setting fashion. At Super Bowl XXIV in 1990, San Franciso piled on a record 55 points against the Broncos. Five years later, they were involved in the highest scoring Super Bowl of all time: the Chargers scored 26 points; the 49ers scored, of course, 49.Formidable.

G is for Gatorade

It's the brightly colored liquid showered over the winning coach at the end of the game. The New York Giants had been dousing coach Bill Parcells throughout the 1984 and '85 seasons, and after the team's Super Bowl XXI win in 1987, the Gatorade shower went mainstream. Now fans even gamble on the color of the shower, but it's never been red. Given the chance of it looking like blood, it probably never will be.Gross.

H is for Halftime

The Super Bowl musical performance has become as eagerly anticipated as the game itself, and staging it requires an extraordinary feat of planning and execution. From the moment the players head for the locker room at the end of the second quarter, hundreds of crew members have barely six minutes to wheel dozens of carts onto the field, forming the stage, lighting rigs, video screens and sound systems around which the show will play. Afterward, they have about the same amount of time to clear the decks for the second half. It's very impressive to watch.Hustle.

unknown content item

I is for International audience

The Super Bowl isn't just huge in the United States; it's become a massive global event, too. According to the NFL's latest figures, the game is aired live in 195 countries and territories, with commentary in 25 languages. The league also says it has collaborated with the US State Department to host 150 events in 65 countries around the globe.Ingrained.

J is for Joe Namath

The first true star of the Super Bowl era. In 1969, "Broadway Joe" led the New York Jets to a huge upset win against the Baltimore Colts – an 18-point favorite – fulfilling his guarantee of victory that he'd made days before. The media lapped up Namath's charisma and style, and the Jets' triumph in Super Bowl III marked a first for an AFL team, legitimizing the league.Jock.

K is for Kickoff.

For over 30 years it's taken place at 6:30 p.m. EST, which allows the NFL to capitalize on the domestic audience and maximize commercial value. The contiguous US mainland has four time zones, meaning that viewers on the East Coast can easily watch at least through the halftime show, whereas on the West Coast the game is played from late afternoon through to early evening.Keen.

L is for Left Shark

Some of the Super Bowl's most enduring images have nothing to do with the actual game. Case in point, the man in the 7-foot shark dancing alongside Katy Perry in 2015. During her performance of the song "Teenage Dream," the shark on the right of the screen was coordinated and in-sync, whereas the shark on the left seemed to be in a world of its own.

Left Shark went viral, becoming an instant cultural phenomenon. Dancer Bryan Gaw subsequently revealed that his act was intentionally freestyle, and even though he left Perry's tour to become a hair stylist, he still boasts of his Left Shark gig on his resume.Loopy.

M is for MVP

From Tom Brady to Joe Montana, Terry Bradshaw and Patrick Mahomes, the sport's greatest players have been named as the Super Bowl's Most Valuable Player multiple times. Through 59 Super Bowls to date, the MVP has finished on the winning side, except for Super Bowl V in 1971, when the Cowboys linebacker Chuck Howley was given the honor. Howley made two interceptions and one forced fumble, but it wasn't quite enough as the Cowboys lost to the Colts, 16-13.Mitigate.

N is for Nielsen ratings

The Super Bowl is a broadcast behemoth. According to Nielsen, which measures television audience size and composition, the NFL's showpiece event is unmatched in the world of sports and entertainment. A record average viewership of 127.7 million people watched the last Super Bowl in the United States, breaking the record of 123.7 million set the previous year. In the list of most-watched broadcasts of all time, the Super Bowl dominates the top 20 spots.Notable.

O is for Overtime

Only twice has the Super Bowl lasted more than 60 regular-game minutes, and on both occasions the winners overturned big deficits to snatch the trophy. Despite leading the Patriots by 25 points, the Falcons somehow lost Super Bowl LI, and the 49ers blew a 10-point lead against the Chiefs in LVIII.Ouch.

P is for Patriots or Pittsburgh.

These two teams have won the Super Bowl a record six times each. Nobody knows the game better than the Pats, who've made 11 appearances, and if they can beat the Seahawks on Sunday, they'll have the win record all to themselves.Phenomenal.

Q is for Quarterback

The signal-caller is the heartbeat of every team in the NFL and usually the focus of attention at any Super Bowl. And none were bigger than Tom Brady. Despite almost being overlooked as the 199th pick in the sixth round of the 2000 NFL draft – with six quarterbacks chosen before him – Brady emerged as the greatest of all time.

Over a remarkable 20-year period, he made a record 10 Super Bowl appearances for the Patriots and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, winning seven of them. He's one of only two QBs to win the Lombardi trophy with two franchises. (The other is Peyton Manning.)Quintessential.

R is for Rings

Nothing reveals a Super Bowl winner quite like the ostentatious rings that they wear on their fingers, and if you look closely, many will tell the story of the game. The Patriots' LI ring from 2017 carries 283 diamonds, denoting the 28-3 deficit they recovered from against the Falcons. There are 127 diamonds on the bezel of the Eagles' ring from Super Bowl LII in 2018 – 127 represents the total when adding the jersey numbers of the three players involved in the "Philly Special" trick play against the Patriots. The Buccaneers' LV ring from 2021 even has a removable top, revealing a mini replica of their Raymond James Stadium, where the game was played.Regal.

S is for Super Ball

Without the bouncy ball toy, we might still be talking about the annual "AFL – NFL World Championship Game." In 1966, the founder of the American Football League, Lamar Hunt, spontaneously referred to a proposed showdown game between football's two merging rival leagues as the "Super Bowl." Commissioner Pete Rozelle wasn't convinced, but by 1969, for the third game between the Jets and the Colts, the NFL was officially marketing it as the Super Bowl. Hunt said later that he thinks he was inspired by his kids' rubber toy ball, which could bounce over a house.Soaring.

T is for Tickets

There were roughly 33,000 empty seats at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum for Super Bowl I – about a third of its capacity in 1967 – but every game since has been a sellout (including the extremely limited seats available during the Covid-19 pandemic). And you won't find tickets for anything close to the $12 they were sold for back in 1967, about $116 in today's dollars. This year, Forbes has said the average ticket price is around $7,500, among the highest on record. The Super Bowl has established itself as the pre-eminent FOMO event in world sport.Toppy.

U is for Unbeaten

The 1972 Miami Dolphins are the only NFL team to run the table, winning Super Bowl VII against the Redskins and closing out the season with a 17-0 record. The New England Patriots were the closest to matching them in 2007, losing only to the Giants in Super Bowl XLII and finishing with an 18-1 record. The surviving '72 Dolphins players still celebrate when the last remaining unbeaten team loses each season.Unique.

V is for Vince Lombardi

The legendary coach led the Green Bay Packers to victory in the first two Super Bowls, and his name was given to the iconic Tiffany trophy after his death in 1970.Venerable.

W is for Wardrobe Malfunction

Arguably the most controversial moment in Super Bowl history came when Justin Timberlake fleetingly exposed Janet Jackson's right nipple during the 2004 halftime show. Whether accidental or intentional, "Nipplegate" caused a storm of controversy and sparked a heated debate over public decency and broadcasting standards.

If you blinked you would have missed it – Jackson was only exposed for half a second – but the scandal lasted for at least eight years and an argument over fines against CBS for airing the nudity went all the way to the Supreme Court, which tossed them out. Meanwhile, "wardrobe malfunction" made it into all the major dictionaries.Whoops.

X is for X

And all the other Roman numerals that add an air of grandeur and tradition to the Super Bowl. The league adopted the numerals to avoid confusion, because the Super Bowl is played in the calendar year after the regular season. Since the fifth Super Bowl was named V, only once has the league reverted to Arabic numbers, because it thought L (50) didn't look right.X-factor.

Y is for Young, Steve.

Even the great Tom Brady could never match Young's feat in Super Bowl XXIX in 1995, when he passed Joe Montana's record and threw a record six touchdowns. Since he'd never done that before, in any game, Young described the feat as "unbelievable" and over 30 years later, he's still amazed that nobody has done better.Yield.

Z is for Zero.

The A-list stars who perform in the halftime show get paid $0. Michael Jackson, Paul McCartney, Prince and Beyonce have all rocked the stage from the 50-yard line, and while the NFL spends tens of millions of dollars putting on the show, the main performers leave empty handed. Most wouldn't have to be asked twice, though; the exposure to such a massive global audience is worth a fortune in streaming revenue, back catalog sales and concert promotion.Zillionaire?

England's resurgence threatens France's and Ireland's Six Nations dominance

LONDON (AP) — There's finally a serious threat to theFranceandIrelanddominion over the Six Nations.

England has come on for the first time since its last title in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The team is riding an 11-game winning streak, in which the highlight wasbeating New Zealand 33-19in November. It ended the All Blacks' grand slam hopes and sealed the exit of New Zealand coach Scott Robertson.

A resurgent team with British and Irish Lions on the bench and brimming with X-factor in Immanuel Feyi-Waboso and Henry Pollock has prompted coach Steve Borthwick, normally cautious, to talk up their climactic last-round showdown with defending champion France in Paris.

"On 14 March ... we want to be in a position in that game to get what we all want to achieve," Borthwick told the BBC.

England is vulnerable, though. Itslast test of 2025against Argentina was an aerial dogfight that wasn't clinched until the Pumas bungled a last-minute throw-in.

France and Ireland have shared the last four Six Nations titles and anticipation of their matchup this year will be resolved in the opening game, the first Thursday kickoff in championship history to avoid the Milan Cortina Olympics opening ceremony.

France is the favorite thanks to an ideal schedule — home games against Ireland and England — the return of inspirational captain Antoine Dupont, and the strength of the Top 14, home of the last five European club champions.

But France's autumn campaign raised questions: It was outsmarted andoverpowered by 14-man South Africaand notched unconvincingwins against Fijiand adepleted Australia.

Coach Fabien Galthié has appeared to accept their struggles while transitioning the team for the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia.

He shocked by dropping unhurriedrecord try-scorer Damian Penaud, workhorse vice-captain Grégory Alldritt and 98-cap filler Gaël Fickou. From UiniAtonio's sudden retirementdue to heart issues and an injury list including Romain Ntamack, Paul Boudehent and Nolann Le Garrec, Galthié sees opportunity rather than jeopardy.

He's highlighted novice backs Théo Attissogbe, Kalvin Gourgues and Fabien Brau-Boirie and uncapped flanker Lenni Nouchi, who is the oldest of the four at 22. "These prospects need to play," Galthié said. "They need the chance to make mistakes."

Then there's Dupont and the precious reassurance he gives every team he plays for that everything will be OK. AnACL tear in Marchagainst Ireland kept himout until Novemberand the scrum-half finally played 80 minutes in mid-January. He's surprised himself by how quickly he's got up to speed.

The big debate among Irish fans at this time is usually about who should be the fly-half: Sam Prendergast, the best attacker? Jack Crowley, the best defender? Or Harry Byrne, the best goal kicker?

But there have been bigger issues for Ireland in a troublesome buildup.

Ireland's all-Lions front row washumiliated by South Africain November. The lineout is already messy and if Ireland doesn't have a scrum it won't matter who is the No. 10.

Tighthead star Tadhg Furlong has played less than two hours of rugby since the South Africa embarrassment and injuries have forced Ireland to its fourth-choice loosehead. Whoever plays, all eyes will be on him in the first scrum in Paris.

Also out are Mack Hansen, Finlay Bealham, Ryan Baird and Hugo Keenan, who broke his thumb in the training camp in Portugal last week.

BundeeAki was also droppedand censured by Ireland before a disciplinary panel served him a six-week suspension for verbally abusing a referee again.

The ban spoke to a "growing and unacceptable culture" of misconduct by Ireland players toward match officials, former Irish test ref Owen Doyle told the Irish Times. Other recent cases involved Jonathan Sexton in 2023 and Hansen in 2024, and Caelan Doris and James Ryan have also had communication issues. They add up to an unwanted reputation for Ireland with referees.

Scotland has a different reputation. World-beaters at times, the Scots are notoriously prone to switching off in games.

The booing at Murrayfield in November after theylost to Argentina from 21-0 upcan't be brushed off. The collapses stem from a weak bench, unreliable set-pieces and a mental fragility that have not been fixed under Gregor Townsend, the longest serving of the current Six Nations coaches.

Scottish Rugby defied a growing clamor for a new voice for the national team by giving Townsend acontract extensionlast September to the 2027 World Cup. By then he will have been in charge for 10 years.

Townsend doesn't shy from tough questions and showed he can be ruthless when he dropped Lions winger Duhan van der Merwe before the New Zealand game in November.

Scotland averages two wins per Six Nations on Townsend's watch and they could have two wins by the only break in the competition this year; they start with Italy away, home to England, which hasn't won at Murrayfield since 2020, then Wales away.

After beating Italy three times out of three in 2025, battling in two, Springboks coach Rassie Erasmus predicted "underrated" Italy will finish second or third in the Six Nations. But his compliment didn't specify when.

Italy has never finished higher than fourth and to repeat that this year would no surprise. There are only two home games, Scotland at the start and England at the end, but the Azzurri's positive energy and enterprise have brought about rare sold-out signs at 70,000-seat Stadio Olimpico against Scotland.

"Can we dream of beating Scotland?" coach Gonzalo Quesada said. "We're world champions at dreaming."

Italy has big holes at the back to fill after injuries to Ange Capuozzo and Tommaso Allan were compounded by a ruptured ACL in training on Saturday suffered by in-form Northampton wing Edoardo Todaro, who debuted in November.

If Japan was in the Six Nations Wales would be ecstatic.

At Japan's expense in 2025, Wales ended thelongest losing streakin men's tier-one history in July, and snapped a record 10-matchlosing streak in home gamesin November. But another streak is still alive:11 consecutive Six Nations lossesdating to 2023.

Wales supporters starved for success gobbled up crumbs of optimism from a bunch of tries scored against New Zealand and Argentina in November. But at the other end Wales didn't have the physicality to stop opponents from getting over the gainline.

The team's best player and captain, Jac Morgan, remained a doubt to appear in the tournament following shoulder surgery. Also worrying for Wales were ticket sales, its lifeblood. Sales are low. At least a goosebumps prematch show is guaranteed: The national anthem will be sung a cappella in Cardiff after it was a big hit in November before the All Blacks game.

A Palestinians child waves from the window of a bus evacuating war-wounded and patients, accompanied by relatives, as they ready to leave the Gaza Strip for treatment abroad through the Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt, the day after it was opened by Israel for a limited number of people, in Khan Yunis, in the southern Gaza Strip on February 2, 2026. (Bashar Taleb / AFP - Getty Images)

TheRafah border crossingbetween the Gaza Strip and Egypt partially reopened Monday, a significant step in theceasefire between Israel and Hamas.

The limited reopening will allow some movement of people in and out of the Palestinian enclave, enabling small numbers in need of medical aid to leave Gaza and letting some others return to the territory.

A spokesperson for the Israeli military agency COGAT, Shimi Zuaretz, confirmed to NBC News that the crossing had reopened at 2 a.m. ET. He was unable to say how many people had crossed so far.

COGAT had said Sunday the crossing would reopen only for the movement of people. It earlier warned that the crossings at Rafah would be limited and would involve security clearance by Israel.

European Union border officers are expected to assist with operations at the crossing, consistent with past operations in Rafah. Shadi Othman, media officer at the European Union Office in Jerusalem, told NBC News on Monday the reopening would allow dozens of patients to leave Gaza, while dozens of people would enter from the Egyptian side.

"This is today's plan," Othman said. "We will wait until the end of the day to see what will happen and to know the final number of those who depart and those who enter."

The crossing in Gaza's southernmost city has been nearly completely closed since May 2024, amid Israel's massive military offensive launched in response to the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas-led terrorist attack. The conflict was brought to a halt in October by a ceasefire brokered in part by the United States.

The closure of the Rafah crossing, which has long been one of the only gateways to the rest of the world for Palestinians in Gaza, cut off an important route for the sick or injured to get medical care outside the war-ravaged enclave. Hospitals and other lifesaving infrastructure inside Gaza have been largely destroyed or badly damaged in the Israeli offensive.

Palestinian patients, wait to leave Gaza for treatment abroad through the Rafah border crossing, in Khan Younis (Ramadan Abed / Reuters)

The Egyptian Health Ministry said Monday that the level of preparedness at all health care facilities had been raised for the movement of patients and the wounded, and the return to Gaza of those who have recovered. Some 150 hospitals nationwide, nearly 12,000 doctors and between 250 and 300 fully equipped ambulances, were on standby for crisis management, it said.

Khaled Mujawir, the governor of Egypt's North Sinai province, told NBC News on Sunday that 150 wounded, injured and sick Palestinians from Gaza were expected to arrive in Egypt on Monday.

The director of the Nasser Medical Complex in the city of Khan Younis told NBC News that Israel had approved travel for only five patients from a list of 27 the hospital had submitted for transfer. Delaying travel of those in medical need out of Gaza is "a real threat to their lives," Dr. Atef Al-Hout said.

The reopening the crossing in both directions is a key pillar ofPresident Donald Trump's peace plan for Gazaand comes just days after the remains ofthe last hostage held in the enclave were returned to Israel.

APTOPIX Israel Palestinians Gaza (Jehad Alshrafi / AP)

The reopening could signal a long-awaited transition to the second phase of the plan, which also involves Hamas' disarmament, the transfer of power to a new technocratic government and the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces.

But many details remain uncertain, and the ceasefire remains shaky.

Israeli strikes on Gaza killedat least 30 Palestinians including several children Saturday, local officials said, a day after Israel accused Hamas of new truce violations. Israel's army said it was targeting Hamas militants and weapons sites across the Gaza Strip.

Israel has killed more than 500 people in Gaza since the ceasefire began, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry in the enclave.

Latest Batch of Epstein Files Has Global Impact

The Justice Department's (DOJ) release of files related to investigations into Jeffrey Epstein on Friday has revealed further details about his ties to powerful figures in the United States.

The new batch of some three million pages included never-before-seen communications between Epstein and Secretary of CommerceHoward Lutnick, TeslaCEO Elon Muskand billionaire Microsoft founder Bill Gates, to name a few.

The presence of someone's name or communications in the files is not proof of wrongdoing.

But the files have also revealed Epstein's global reach, causing shockwaves far beyond the United States.

From a resignation in Slovakia's government to a terse response from India's prime minister, here is how the latest batch of Epstein files is reverberating worldwide.

A minister resigns in Slovakia

The national security adviser to Slovakia's Prime Minister Robert Fico has resigned in the wake of the latest document drop by the DOJ after his name was among those who allegedly corresponded with Epstein.

The text messages and emails appear to show a discussion between Miroslav Lajcak, a former Slovak foreign minister, and Epstein about movies, foreign affairs, and women.

In one series of text messages, a Lajcakappearsto message Epstein: "Regards from Kiev! Just to confirm that girls here are as gorgeous as ever:)".

Lajcak denied any wrongdoing and condemned Epstein's crimes in a statement, adding he was stepping down "Not because I did anything criminal or unethical," but so that Fico "does not bear political costs for something unrelated to his decisions," according to localSlovakmedia.

Prime Minister Fico announced Lajcak's decision in a video statement on Facebook, praising him as "a great diplomat." In light of calls from the opposition party for Lajcak to resign, Fico said that media coverage of the case has been "hypocritical."`

India responds to email about Modi

One email between Epstein and a "Y. Jabor", in which he discussed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's relationship with the U.S. and Israel, prompted a response from the Indian government on Saturday.  In the email, sent after Modi's 2017 visit to Israel, Epstein said that the prime minister "danced and sang in Israel for the benefit of the US president."

The Indian governmentdeniedEpstein's characterization of the visit. "Beyond the fact of the Prime Minister's official visit to Israel in July 2017, the rest of the allusions in the email are little more than trashy ruminations by a convicted criminal, which deserve to be dismissed with the utmost contempt," the statement said.

Modi was the first Indian prime minister to visit Israel, and the trip was seen as a shift in relations between the two countries. Donald Trump was in his first term in office as president at the time.

More pressure on Mountbatten-Windsor and Mandelson

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, formerly Prince Andrew, wasstrippedof his titles and evicted from his royal residence by Buckingham Palace in October 2025 after years of controversy over his well-known ties to Epstein. He is the subject of allegations from one of Epstein's most vocal victims, the late Virginia Giuffre, who said in her posthumous memoir that she was forced to have sexual encounters with Andrew when she was a teen, which the British royal has repeatedly denied.

Mountbatten-Windsor is once again in the news as the newest batch of Epstein files show photographs of the former royal leaning over a woman or girl lying on the floor, whose face has been redacted. It is unclear where the photographs were taken, as no captions or comments accompanied them.

Mountbatten-Windsor has repeatedly denied wrongdoing in relation to Epstein, and has denied Giuffre's accusations.

Beyond Mountbatten-Windsor, Peter Mandelson, Member of the House of Lords of the United Kingdom, has also been implicated in the most recent batch of Epstein files released Friday. Bank statements released in the pages suggest that Epstein made $75,000 in payments to accounts connected to Lord Mandelson. The alleged payments were separated into three $25,000 sums between 2003 and 2004.

The files also suggest that after his release from prison in 2009, Epstein sent thousands of dollars in bank transfers to Peter Mandelson's then-partner Reinaldo Avila da Silva.  A spokesperson for Mandelson toldSky News:"Neither he nor his husband, Reinaldo Avila da Silva, has any record or recollection of receiving payments in 2003 or 2004 or know whether the documentation is authentic."

"There are also multiple formatting errors in the documents and I would like JP Morgan to confirm on the record that they are certain these documents are authentic and that the individual cheques are also authentic," Lord Mandelson told Sky News.

"Until this fact checking has been achieved I maintain my original position which is that I have no record and no recollection of ever receiving these sums and that these statements are false," he continued.

Mandelson was fired as the U.K.'s ambassador to the United States in Septemberafter the country's foreign office said that a previous release of emails showed that the extent of his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein was "materially different from that known at the time of his appointment."

The new files add further political pressure on Mandelson and Mountbatten-Windsor to testify before Congress about their links to Epstein. The House Oversight Committee called on the former royal to travel to Washington for questioning.

"In terms of testifying, I have always said anybody who has got information should be prepared to share that information," Prime Minister Keir Starmer told reporters Friday.  "Epstein's victims have to be the first priority."
