A Man Entered a Hospital and Disappeared. Months Later, His Wife Is Still Searching for the Truth: ‘Where Are You?’

The wife of a man who went missing after entering and leaving a Massachusetts hospital isn't giving up on her search.

Leonard Mercury, 57, was last seen at around 2 a.m. on Oct. 31 leaving Heywood Hospital in Gardner in the direction of a bike path, according to a missing person's poster shared by theGardner Police Department.

Police noted that he is approximately 6 feet tall and weighs around 195 lbs. He was last seen wearing hospital clothing and no shoes.

Police said that they were "concerned" for his "wellbeing" and believed that he "may be in need of medical attention." Authorities added that "community awareness and assistance" was also "crucial."

More than two months since his disappearance, his wife, Nicole La Guerre, toldWHDH-TVthat she has not given up hope yet for his safe return and that she often returns to Heywood Hospital to search for clues as to where her husband could have gone.

"He's not here, but then the question is where? Where are you?" she questioned, adding that she's "been out here" behind Heywood hospital "so many times."

She shared with WHDH-TV andBoston 25 Newsthat her husband was admitted to the hospital after facing mental health issues and he was placed on a Section 12 mental health hold. She said hours later, police came to her door and told her that her husband went missing from the hospital.

"That's when [they] told me that he broke the window," she recalled to WHDH-TV, explaining that she had also been told that he had somehow managed to get on the roof of the hospital, jump to the ground and then run into the woods.

His disappearance prompted a search from the Gardner Police Department and volunteers, who have searched the woods near the hospital and parts of a nearby lake in order to find clues as to what may have happened to him.

La Guerre also launched aGoFundMeto help raise money to hire private investigators to join in on the search. The website said that since his dissapearance, "our family has been living in heartbreak and uncertainty, not knowing if he's safe, if he's hurt, or where he might be."

Patrick Aubuchon, a private investigator, told WHDH-TV, "He only had hospital pants and a shirt on, so he wasn't well insulated. You would have to look at hypothermia right away. We are trying to just clear this area to give the family the answer that he's not here."

He said the search has not garnered any clues as to where Mercury has gone.

The Gardner Police Department shared anupdated missing person's posterin November asking for the public's assistance in locating him. They added in their update that he may be "disoriented."

As for La Guerre, she said she is still really upset about what happened, and told WHDH-TV that she spends "most days really angry" because "I don't have answers."

However, she said she isn't giving up and has continued to follow tips looking for any sign of her husband.
