THE United Nations headquarters was placed on lockdown after a man armed with a shotgun was pacing outside the facility sparking a massive police response. Photos from the scene show the man pacing around, pointing the shotgun to the bottom of his chin with his finger on the trigger. The incident has sparked a stand-off between cops and the suspect. The update came an hour after the government building was placed on lockdown, and staff were asked to shelter in place. Police confirmed there is no threat to the public. Shortly after noon, an armored emergency services unit vehicle was seen outside the government facility. The NYPD is asking people to avoid the area as traffic has backed up along the FDR Drive. The UN facility is located in the Murry Hill section of Manhattan. The complex has served as the official headquarters of the United Nations since its completion in 1951.
