Why Steve Smith was left out of Australia's T20 World Cup squad | KD52YR7 | 2024-05-01 16:08:01

Selector George Bailey has explained why Steve Smith has been left out of Australia's 15-man T20 World Cup squad.
Australia named their provisional squad for the tournament on Wednesday but there was no place for star batter Smith.
Teams have until May 25 to update their squads but it appears unlikely that Smith, 34, will be offered a reprieve.
'I think his best T20 work of late has come at the top of the order, and at the moment, we see that top order being really settled,' Cricket Australia selector Bailey said.
'I still think he's got an enormous amount of good cricket left ahead of him, across what formats, I think that's as much up for him to decide.
'I know he still loves playing T20 cricket – he's going to play some MLC later this year – so that's still an itch that he'd like to scratch.
'We've had a handful of players, probably more than some other countries, that have been multi-format for a long, long period of time, and it's natural that some of those will start to drop off.'
Smith has an underwhelming T20 international record, scoring 1,094 runs in 67 matches at an average of 25 and a strike-rate of 125.
In Tests, he is considered one of the best players of his generation, amassing almost 10,000 runs at an average of 57, with 32 centuries and 41 fifties.
Australia will be led at the T20 World Cup, which takes places in the Caribbean and United States in June, by all-rounder Mitchell Marsh.
'It's been an immense privilege to play for my country and now an even greater honour to lead the squad to a World Cup,' said Marsh.
'We have had some strong success in recent times and I am hopeful that will continue in what looks like a wide-open tournament.'
Australia, who lifted their sole T20 World Cup trophy in 2021, begin their campaign on June 6 against Oman. The 50-over champions will also face defending champions England, Scotland and Namibia as they attempt to progress from Group B.

'Being constrained to a squad of 15 for World Cups is always a challenge given the different scenarios and options we'd like to cover,' Bailey added.
'We will continue monitoring several players who have missed out on this preliminary squad and note that if we wish to change this squad, we have the option to do so over the coming weeks in accordance with ICC regulations.'
While Smith was left out, Australia's squad includes a number of high-profile players including Pat Cummins, Travis Head, David Warner and Mitchell Starc.
Gamers finally take the plunge after the Xbox Series X drops to a new low price | 04X4EOV | 2024-05-01 15:08:01
XBOX is known as the budget friendly option for gamers thanks to the Xbox Series S, which is one of the cheapest home consoles on the market.
However, for those who want to play with the best performance and graphics, they still have to shell out for the Xbox Series X.
Gamers finally take the plunge after the Xbox Series X drops to a new low priceBilly Freeman via UnsplashThe Xbox Series X is Microsoft's more expensive console[/caption]
The Xbox Series X promises a number of features over the Series S, including 1TB of storage, a disc drive and true 4K resolution.
If you've been saving up for the Xbox Series X, we've found a great deal that will help you save £40 on the price of the console.
We've scoured the web looking for the best deals, so we can pass on the savings to you.
Argos – Xbox Series X – £439.99
Argos has a 'great new price' for the Xbox Series X, and it seems that this is the price the console will stay at.
Microsoft's RRP is £479.99 so this is a huge £40 saving over other stores.
The Xbox Series X has been reduced to just £439.99, and it comes with a free controller.
It seems that there is no time limit on this deal, and that the new price will be around for good.
At the moment it's unclear if other stores will follow suit with the new price, but it does give hints to an upcoming console.
Sometimes companies reduce the price of a console if they know that a new version of that console is coming to the market.
How a video game can help you overcome your grief | 04X4EOV | 2024-05-01 15:08:01
YOU might know Abubakar Salim for that raunchy silver suit in Raised By Wolves, or his emotional reveal at The Game Awards 2023.
Salim may be better known for his acting roles, but he has recently set up a game studio hoping to honour his father in a story about grief.
How a video game can help you overcome your griefSurgent StudiosKenzera shines by mixing the gameplay into the story's themes[/caption]
Going into Tales of Kenzera: Zau, you might be concerned that a story about the death of a parent would be a downer to put things lightly.
Reminding players of the inevitability of losing a loved one can be hard, and it's not as if Zau is devoid of unwanted emotions.
However, it doesn't make you fell down, and instead helps you become more comfortable with the concept of death.
Tales of Kenzera: Zau is about those who are left behind when a loved one dies, and it addresses its themes through both metaphor and straightforward storytelling.
Our protagonist Zau is suffering after the loss of his father and makes a deal with death to bring him back if he reclaims three other souls along the way.
As a shaman, Zau's job is to heal, and when the world around him is crumbling, he's the only person left to heal.
He's not only dealing with the loss of his father but the loss of the world around him, and it's a lot of pressure.
Like many people suffering from grief, Zau throws himself into the task in the hopes that he can fix things.
He may live in a magical world full of spirits, but Zau tells a very personal and human story.
We see Zau help the others around him with their grief, while avoiding his own. He tries desperately to avoid what is inevitable.
With a heavy story, it would be easy to forgive lacklustre gameplay, but Zau adds a handful of great mechanics and builds on them well.
Most metroidvanias lock exploration skills in hidden corners around the map, but Zau gives you everything from the start and lets you go wild.
Your growth doesn't come from unlocking new abilities but from becoming more skilled at the ones you have.
There are upgrades, but these only add layers to your already robust options.
Upgrading your skills is done through improving yourself, a mechanic that weaves excellently into the story.
Combat does get repetitive in the latter half. While there are plenty of enemy types, once you settle into the gameplay not much challenges you.
Even in these moments it's hard to deny the beauty of Kenzera, and we never grew tired of the world or the story.
Tales of Kenzera: Zau breaks many of the conventions of your typical metroidvania by focusing on the story more than the exploration.
But it's a short experience that will hit you in the heart with a tale of love, loss, grief and acceptance.

I played PlayStation's upcoming sexy exclusive and it offers more than just gorgeous graphics | 04X4EOV | 2024-05-01 15:08:01
STELLAR Blade has split fans thanks to the protagonist's super sexy design.
It doesn't matter if you enjoy Eve's look, the most important aspect of the game is whether it's fun or not.
I played PlayStation's upcoming sexy exclusive and it offers more than just gorgeous graphicsShiftUpEveryone talks about Eve's sexy design but Stellar Blade offers a lot more[/caption]
Having a hyper-sexual character in action adventure games like Stellar Blade is hardly new ground; just look at Bayonetta or Nier Automata's 2B for more on that.
And Stellar Blade stands apart from these by straddling the line between the genre and challenging soulslike games.
It takes a hybrid approach to this. Those who want the hardcore experience can choose Normal difficulty and wear that see-through suit to put an emphasis on parrying and dodging.
Those who want to play for the fantastic world-building and flashy graphics can turn it down to Story difficulty.
Story difficulty isn't for beginners and you'll still find yourself challenged in boss fights, but you'll die less between fights, and you'll have more tools at your disposal.
Aside from starting with more skills unlocked, combat will slow down at the point when you should dodge or parry if you are struggling with timing.
It's a really nice way to dynamically change the difficulty, and even shift the genre between standard action adventure and soulslike.
A lot of detail has gone into the combat beyond the difficulty level, and there are many ways to take on the Naytiba's with gorgeous, flashy animations.
This is where the game shines. There is clever level design, but due to poor collision and slow box pushing the puzzles and platforming don't feel nearly as satisfying as they should.
Which brings us back to Eve and her eerily reflective backside.
Many sexy characters have gone down as gaming greats like Bayonetta, 2B, Lara Croft, and Tifa Lockhart from Final Fantasy 7.
But I don't see Eve going down in gaming's history books in the same way, as there isn't anything beyond her outside appearance.
This isn't a problem with just Eve. As you help people around the city of Xion you'll see that there is rarely any character development.
Lessons aren't learned, and people don't change because of the terrors that befall them. It all feels like they are just existing.
Engineer Lily has a little more pep in her step, but aside from her child-like optimism she feels interchangeable with anyone else.
It's a shame, because Stellar Blade does a lot to build its unique world where everyone seems taken in by Mother Sphere's cult-like religion.
However, without any personality to the people of the world, it just feels a bit hollow.
Stellar Blade is definitely a good time while it lasts, but I can't see it staying in gamers' vocabulary too long after it's released.
However, if you are gagging for a new action game with flashy, fast-paced combat, then it could be one for you.

How can you tell whether a flannelette sheet is good quality?
There's plenty of flannelette sheets out there, so how do you ensure you're going to find a set that will go the distance — with superior quality that offers warmth, comfort and durability? The main thing to look for is the fabric details: you want flannelette sheets made from 100 per cent pure cotton, as this will be the softest and warmest while also being somewhat breathable thanks to the natural properties of cotton fibres. Also, if you'd like superior warmth and softness, look for flannelette sheets that specify whether they're double-brushed, or brushed on both sides — this traps in additional warmth to keep you cosy.
Are brushed cotton sheets the same as flannelette?
Yes, brushed cotton sheets are the same as flannelette. Flannelette material is made from cotton that has been brushed, which pulls on the softest, finest fibres to raise them away from the fabric surface, creating a fuzzy texture that traps warmth. It's worth noting that sometimes sheets labelled "brushed cotton" refer to a fabric that's only been brushed on one side while flannelette more often refers to double-brushed cotton, but it's the same concept — just double check the product information to ensure.
What is the best material for sheets to keep you warm?
There are quite a few choices of materials to look for in bedsheets when it's warmth that you're looking for. Flannelette are definitely the warmest, softest and cosiest option on the market, so they're a great choice if your home gets quite cold in the wintertime, or if you just run a little cold yourself.
If you're looking for something that's not quite as warm but more suited to year-round use, bamboo or linen sheets are naturally thermoregulating, meaning they keep you warm in winter and cool in summer (though they aren't quite as cosy as flannelette).
Xbox fans in tears as more free games are removed than added this month | 04X4EOV | 2024-05-01 15:08:01
XBOX changes up the games that are available on Game Pass regularly, but usually the library grows every month.
However, May is different as more games will be leaving the service this month than arriving.

Five games are being added to Xbox Game Pass this month, but eight games are being removed.
Among the games leaving this month are a number from popular series, and an 89-rated hit.
The highest-rated game leaving the service this month is Norco, an indie point-and-click adventure, which received an excellent 89 rating on review aggregate site Metacritic.
Fuga: Melodies of Steel 2 is another highly-rated game with a score of 84.
This is a turn-based strategy RPG with a choices-matter system that people love.
Another notable game leaving this month is Just Cause 4, the most recent game in the popular series.
Eiyuden Chronicle Rising is also leaving the service, which is disappointing following the launch of Eiyuden Chronicle Hundred Heroes.
This is a side-story prequel which many people have been playing to prepare for the new release.
If any of the games on the list interest you, you have just two weeks to play them before they are gone.
Many of these are smaller games that it would be possible to finish before the deadline.
Here are the games leaving Xbox Game Pass on May 15.

Xbox warns millions of gamers it will start deleting capture back-ups in a month – save them now before it's too lateGettyChanges kick in from the end of May[/caption]
Xbox warns millions of gamers it will start deleting capture back-ups in a month – save them now before it's too lateAlert has started landing in people's message boxes
It was originally meant to start in January but nothing happened.
Months later and warnings have now started to pop up.
Cloud back-ups will start to be deleted from May 30, according to screenshot alerts sent to players.
"Back up your best gaming moments," the message reads.
"Game captures on the Xbox Network will be deleted after 90 days.
"Deletions start 5/30/24. Be sure to backup capture you want to save on OneDrive or on an external hard drive."
The changes affect captures that are 90 days old or older.
But any captures stored directly on your Xbox console are safe.
It's not clear why Microsoft has made the move but the company looks set to free up a nice chunk of cloud storage space.
Large data centres can cost billions for firms to run with all the power and cooling they need.
<!--End ofBrightcovePlayer-->
How to save your Xbox captures to a hard drive or OneDrive
Move your cloud-based captures to an external hard drive or OneDrive account before they disappear.
Don't forget, the free version of OneDrive only has 5GB or storage available which will be quickly swallowed up by large video files.
So you'll either need a decent sized external hard drive that can be plugged into your Xbox machine.
Or, you'll probably need to subscribe to a premium OneDrive
Follow these steps:
Click on the Xbox button on your controller
Go to Capture & share
Tap on Recent captures
Tap on Show all
Select the Manage icon, which looks like a briefcase
From here you can either Select all or tick the individual captures you wish to keep
Now select Copy to external storage to back up onto external storage
Or, Upload to OneDrive if you want to keep it on your own OneDrive cloud account

The Brit socialite was found at the pool area of the hotel, where she was pronounced dead.
Isabelle's death has been confirmed as a suicide by LA County coroners – and it's understood she did not leave a note behind.
Her distraught dad, Sir Henry Lawrence, 7th Baronet of Lucknow, told The Sun of his daughter's death: "I have absolutely no idea why this happened or what was troubling her. It is so awful."
He added: "I was last in contact with her a couple of weeks ago."
Sources told TMZ the 39-year-old had fallen from a high floor.
Isabelle was the daughter of Sir Lawrence, and his ex-wife Penelope Nunan.
She was raised in the Cotswolds alongside her older brother Christopher Lawrence.
During her childhood, she attended the private King Edward's School and Prior Park College in Bath.
Her parents divorced after 14 years together in 1993.
After she finished school, she addressed the UN and The World Bank and was also appointed by the former British prime minister, David Cameron, to serve as a tech adviser.
Isabelle was also known for her love of the nightlife.
Her old social media posts show her moonlighting as a DJ and enjoying events around London.
She moved to California where she worked as a consultant and producer.
The mum was a member of The UCLA Center of Storytellers and Scholars Advisory Board.
She got married to Bradley Thomas in 2018.
The couple shares twin daughters, Poppy and Grace, while Isabelle is also a step mum to her husband's older children Lucy and Charlie.
The two were last pictured together on January 13 at the 2024 BAFTA Tea Party in Beverly Hills.
The young socialite made many famous friends throughout her DJ career including Amy Winehouse, James Blake, and Jameela Jamil.
In an Instagram post, fellow Brit Jamil, who is in a relationship with Blake, said she lost a friend very suddenly.
"My heart is completely and utterly broken and I don't think I will ever recover," she wrote.
"I missed the chance to tell her I loved her. And hold her one last time."
The tragic news comes after Bradley Thomas' Oscar nomination for Best Picture.
Bradley has been one of the producers behind a number of hit films including There's Something About Mary and Dumb and Dumber.

Emergency services raced to the scene on Cleveland Street in Wahroonga at 2pm after receiving a report about the trapped child.
Firefighters on the ground attempted to rescue the boy but he died on the spot.
The school authorities confirmed the child's tragic death in a public statement – and said the school premises would remain closed for the foreseeable future.
They said: "St Lucy's School is very sad to confirm the tragic death of one of our students this afternoon.
"We are cooperating with the investigating police and are not able to make any further statement today.
"The school will be closed to students until further notice.
"We ask for privacy and space for our staff and families to grieve at this difficult time as we remember our beautiful student."
The Sydney cops have now set up a crime scene around the school for the disabled and are in motion to recover the child's body.
A NSW Police spokesperson said an independent report will be prepared for the coroner.
St. Lucy is a private Catholic Dominican School focusing on kids with distinguished disabilities.
It started as a primary school before expanding its operations to include secondary education for the students in 2019.
Currently, the institution caters to around 230 students from kindergarten to year 12.

Start your engines racing fans because the F1 Miami Grand Prix is about to be a special date night for Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce.
The Grammy winner and Kansas City Chiefs player are set to join Patrick Mahomes and Brittany Mahomes at the event this weekend, a source confirmed to Us Weekly.
Both Kelce, 34, and Patrick, 28, are investors in the Alpine F1 team, which has a long sporting link with Miami. Golf star Rory McIlroy and actor Ryan Reynolds are also investors, but it's unclear if they will be in attendance.
This weekend's events – held at Hard Rock Stadium – come in the middle of the NFL offseason and during a pause in Swift's ErasTour.
During their time off, Swift, 34, and Kelce have been able to spend quality time together, including a private getaway to the Bahamas and a trip to the Coachella Music Festival.
Most recently, the couple, traveled to Las Vegas to show their support for Patrick's charity event. While attending the 15 and the Mahomies Vegas Golf Classic on April 27, Kelce offered four tickets to one of Swift's upcoming Eras tour dates during the live auction.
After a fierce bidding war, the tickets ended up selling for $80,000 with proceeds benefiting Patrick's nonprofit.

Swift and Kelce started their love story last summer. Since then, the "Karma" singer has been to 13 Kansas City Chiefs games and developed a bond with Brittany, 28.
"Brittany is thrilled to be building a genuine friendship with Taylor," a source exclusively told Us in October 2023. "They've hung out a couple of times and have grown fairly close in a short period of time. Brittany thinks Taylor is so sweet and down to earth and they get along really great."
As for Kelce, he's taken on the role of MVP cheerleader for Swift as he attended several of her international Eras Tour dates shortly after winning the Super Bowl in February.
After the pair "deepened their bond" during "all the time they've spent together recently," a second insider told Us that resuming Swift's world tour in May will be bittersweet.
"It makes the prospect of her tour more challenging. She'll be sad," the source explained. "They support and respect [each other]. They have busy careers, so they understand those commitments, as difficult as it is."
