Manchester United's plans for a new Old Trafford have taken another step forward after winning unanimous support from the local authority. Officials at Trafford council last night unequivocally backed the plans, which could see a new 100,000-capacity stadium at the heart of a vast regeneration programme. They will now seek a 'top class consultant team' that will be charged with 'helping to shape a high-profile strategic masterplan for the regeneration of the area'.
