Arsenal legend Lee Dixon has warned Ben White that he might come to regret his determination to snub England, although believes fans should respect the defender's choice.

White's omission proved the headline news as Gareth Southgate unveiled his 25-man squad for England's Euro 2024 warm-up matches towards Brazil and Belgium, with the 26-year-old arguably in the form of his life at Arsenal this season.

Southgate went on to explain that White has asked not to be considered for selection through Arsenal's sporting director Edu, which has drawn main criticism from some quarters.

White has not featured at worldwide degree since leaving England's training camp early at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, when rumours swirled of a bust-up with Southgate's assistant supervisor Steve Holland.

It seems unlikely the former Brighton and Leeds man shall be a part of England's get together for this summer time's European Championships and Dixon feels supporters ought to accept his choice given the 'full details' remain a thriller.

'He could be sitting there in 15 to 20 years time and going, "Oh, I wish I might have played for England", but that's as much as him,' the ex-Arsenal and England full-back informed Football FanCast.

'I've gone on report before as saying if he doesn't play, we don't know the complete causes and we'd never know the complete reasons, that's up to him.

'If he doesn't need to play. Okay, superb. Properly, thanks for making an attempt. Who's subsequent? That's precisely where I sit with it.

Reflecting on his personal expertise with England, Dixon theorised that White's choice to make himself unavailable could possibly be a 'strain factor'.

'Once I got here again to play for England once I was in my late 30s and I acquired referred to as back by Howard Wilkinson the strain that I was underneath then after seven years out was big,' Dixon, who was capped 22 occasions by England, added.

'I didn't take pleasure in it. I played one recreation and I really didn't take pleasure in it.

'I used to be at a time in my career – he's not at that – he's so much younger and it's totally different, but I can relate to it if it is a strain thing.

'I felt that once I first played for England it's a special strain because you need to play and I might all the time need to play for England, however he doesn't so positive.

'There's the line, thanks quite a bit, shake his hand and get on with it.'
