Ruud van Nistelrooy will watch Leicester's clash with Brentford on Saturday from the stands after signing a contract until 2027 to manage the Premier League strugglers. The former Manchester United and Real Madrid striker, who left his coaching role at Old Trafford earlier this month, will be in the dugout when the Foxes meet West Ham at the King Power Stadium on Tuesday. Van Nistelrooy succeeds Steve Cooper, who was sacked after just 12 league games at the helm.

The father of Jakob Ingebrigtsen will stand trial next year after being accused of hitting and kicking the double Olympic champion runner – and threatening to 'beat him to death'. Gjert Ingebrigtsen, 58, was charged in April with physically abusing one of his other children, but it emerged on Friday that the indictment against him has now been extended to include mistreatment of Jakob himself. Gjert – who has always denied the allegations – coached Norwegian superstar Jakob, 24, to gold in the 1500 metres at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.
