Residents in Watchet, Somerset, declare they reside on 'probably the most potholed street in England'[/caption]

Two individuals have gone to hospital after tripping in what they referred to as "bomb craters".

Locals in Watchet, Somerset, together with centenarian Sheila Nicholls and husband Invoice signed a petition in 2022 asking for the street to be resurfaced slightly than holes fastened individually.

She described the state of affairs as "awful" and "unsafe".

But locals say they have been informed to fix the street themselves.

Neighbour Brian Pankhurst, 79, stated: "It's absurd. We're all aged and don't have that money. How are you going to inform a 101-year-old to fill their potholes?"

The street leads to the West Somerset Mineral Line, an 11-mile stretch of disused Victorian railway now widespread with walkers and cyclists.

Locals claim the council has blamed their cars — although they've five in complete.

Brian added: "They're not bearing in mind the good massive council dust and waste lorries and grocery store vans that come down here.

"We haven't heard anything since October. The council say it's our duty but when so, why was it tarmacked within the first place?"

Somerset Council stated: "This lane is a public right of approach, not a public street, which is utilized by residents to entry their properties.

Duty for the upkeep is complicated and there will must be a shared strategy to maintenance.

"'We do understand individuals's considerations and are going to work with residents to return to a workable answer."
