A British paraglider has been airlifted to hospital after suffering a critical accident in southern Spain.

The person stated to be around 40, plummeted to the bottom quickly after take-off and fell onto rocks.

Colleagues phoned the emergency providers who mobilised police, paramedics and firefighters.

An air ambulance was referred to as to select him up on the crash website before being dispatched as an alternative to a nearby helipad to take him to hospital.

The sufferer was stretched away from the scene as a precaution towards attainable spinal accidents, and is claimed to have suffered multiple injuries to his back and arms.

He was taken to Reina Sofia Hospital in the city of Cordoba, however his present situation remains unclear.

The incident occurred just earlier than 3pm yesterday seconds after the unnamed Brit took off from the summit of the Sierra de Aras Mountain, near Lucena in southern Spain.

They used a rope to haul him up the steep hill under the mountain summit where he crashed to the ground, when footage confirmed he was acutely aware and responding to orders from the emergency staff surrounding him.
