Dr Thomas Kwan, 52, is accused of making an attempt to kill his mother's associate, Patrick O'Hara, who's in his 70s, by injecting him with poison.
A physician has appeared in courtroom accused of attempted murder after a suspected poison assault.

The balding, bespectacled GP spoke only to verify his identify, age, and handle when he appeared before JPs in Newcastle yesterday.
He was not asked to enter a plea.
The world round his house in Ingleby Barwick, Teesside, was cordoned off on Tuesday night as police, paramedics and firefighters launched an enormous operation.
Emergency crews in protecting fits have been seen getting into the property and police later stated an "unknown substance" had been found.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson added: "Following a report of suspected poisoning which was acquired on Wednesday, January 24, Thomas Kwan, 52, has been charged with attempted murder."
The married dad-of-one was remanded in custody and will subsequent appear at Newcastle crown court on March 6.
He was born in Hong Kong and got here to the UK 39 years in the past as a scholar.
